About Me
Once Upon A Dollar is a blog about my life as a Work at Home Mom. I started working from home in 2001 when I was searching online for a way to earn some extra cash. Within a few days of searching I found an opportunity that fit the bill. It cost me $1.00 to start my very first home business and it was the best dollar I ever spent. I earned the title of “Mom” in 2009 when my son, Cody, was born. Everything his Daddy & I do is for Cody’s future. We live in Texas on 7 wooded acres with a little pond next to the driveway. I can’t say the house is a “very very very fine house” (yet), but there ARE 2 cats in the yard! (along with a giant dog, some chickens, fish, rabbits, coyotes, mountain lions, hawks, wild boars, spiders…. you name it… we got it)
I grew up in Western New York (Niagara Falls ate my Frisbee) and moved to Texas in 2002 (Hot Hot Hot!) where I met my husband in 2004. We bought a house out in the country and got married in 2007 (In jeans and flip flops!). In 2009 I became a Mom (during a tornado) and that was the best moment of my life. My husband and I are very proud of our little boy and both of our worlds revolve around him. We have a ginormous dog named Yeti. He’s an over 100 lb fluffy white puppy (abominable snowman!) who is very protective of our little guy. They tell me he’ll keep growing for his first two years (need a saddle). WOW. On top of being protective of Cody, Yeti also takes very good care of our chickens… he actually raised one on the porch (a real gentle giant) when the little bird got kicked out of the hen house. After we named it “Attila the Hen” (affectionately), the chick turned out to be a very friendly rooster. LOL :
In 2008 I got laid off from my full time position at a plumbing company (cue the violins). As I was pregnant (big as a house! could barely walk!) when I lost my job it was difficult for me to find a suitable replacement position. Even now I am still unable to find one that would cover the cost of daycare, so I continue to work from home and I spend my days with my cutie pie (mama needs a break!).
I have been making chainmaille jewelry since early 2005. All things medieval (“King Arthur” wore chainmaille lol) have fascinated me for as long as I can remember so it’s great being able to apply an ancient technique to some more modern ideas (goes great with combat boots). Along with my chainmaille weaving (I knit with pliers!), I also sell childrens’ books & gift wrap and I am a long time member (since 2001) of a non-toxic “shopping club” that pays it’s members to switch stores and spread the word.
If you’d like to know more about me, read my blog posts! I don’t consider myself “a guru” or “an expert” in anything but being me, so my readers will find a little bit of this, a little bit of that, and everything in between that suits my fancy on these pages. I’m still new to blogging and it’s a little random, I mix my personal blogs and my business blogs all together here but maybe my writing will amuse you
And of course I am ALWAYS excited to share my work at home opportunities with everyone, so please feel free to ask!
